Teleconnection of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) to the precipitation and temperature in Mexico

This paper highlights the relationship between precipitation (PP), maximum (TM) and minimum temperature (tm) variability in Mexico and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) climate teleconnections during the period 1950-2007.Non parametric correlations in 550 climatologic Bird Feeders stations throughout Mexico were tested for statistical significance at the 90% level or greater for each month. The results suggest the following patterns of Shorts PDO PP, TM and tm anomalies: warm phases (positive) of the PDO coincide with anomalously wet periods during boreal winter (nov-apr), as well as warm conditions during boreal summer (may-oct) extending into the northeastern of Mexico. The results confirm PDO teleconnections and the amplification of climate signals in Mexico at local and regional scales.
